Bee Happy

A community garden with bees for seniors

In 2026, we’ll be getting off to an active start outdoors. With our new Bee Happy project, we’re opening up Markthalle Neun to the outside world with a hands-on bee garden for older people, fostering blossoming encounters right in the heart of the city.

We meet every two weeks on Monday afternoons for open garden get-togethers at our little patch of greenery, right next to Markthalle Neun.

By being directly involved in the planning of the garden, participants take on responsibility, gain new knowledge and have the opportunity to share their existing experience with the group. Alongside planting raised beds, we learn about the various ways in which home-grown herbs and vegetables can be used throughout the year and turn them into small dishes and snacks.

Our garden is further enriched by the arrival of a bee colony, which gives participants direct insights and an introduction to practical beekeeping under professional supervision.

The neighbourhood is warmly invited to our seasonal celebrations, where participants of the garden group share their knowledge, run hands-on activities or workshops and offer tasty treats from the garden.
