Zusammen is(s)t man weniger allein
Since 2021, we have been organising a cooking club for seniors in collaboration with the Adalbertstraße Neighbourhood Centre (formerly the Community Centre) run by the AWO Kreisverband Berlin Spree Wuhle e.V. and Bona Peiser from the Wassertor Neighbourhood Centre.
This is where we want to come together - around the table, behind the stove and over a meal. By cooking delicious and healthy dishes together, we get to know each other and our culinary traditions. The aim is to share the joy of cooking, to reflect on food and eating habits, and to create delicious moments of togetherness.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Heidehof Foundation, the Santor Foundation and the Märkisches Landbrot Foundation for their financial support in implementing the project during the 2025 project period. Thanks to renewed funding from the Märkisches Landbrot Foundation, we are able to continue the project on a reduced scale in 2026.

The project was recognised as a ‘Good Practice Example’ by the BAGSO - Federal Working Group of Senior Citizens' Organisations and the IN FORM Initiative as part of the national competition ‘Gemeinsam ESS-Kulturen erleben’.
Outreach
Due to the high level of interest and demand, the Kochschule Neun has already visited other organisations working with older people to establish the project in other locations.
A practical guide has been produced based on the ongoing implementation of the cooking club and the experience gained at new locations. This is intended to enable other organisations to independently set up a cooking club for older people within their own context.
Furthermore, the concept is continually being presented at various events on health education for older people and promoted nationwide.
If you are interested, we offer the practical guide in brochure form, as well as training courses for facilitators based on it. These can take place at Kochschule Neun or at your own organisation.
