Food Rescue Day – Count us in!

Over 11 million tonnes of food, some of which is still edible, is thrown away in Germany every year – cities such as Berlin are particularly affected. One measure taken by the Senate Department for Justice and Consumer Protection as part of Berlin’s Food Strategy and the Round Table on Reducing Food Waste in Berlin – to which we, KOCHSCHULE NEUN, are also members – is the coordination of initiatives across the entire city.

On 30 September 2025, a city-wide day of action against food waste will take place across Berlin. With more than 20 events already registered, this day promises to be varied, creative and informative. Among other things, Berliners will be offered ‘Retter-Tüten’ (food rescue bags), cooking events and workshops on the day.

Together with the Verbraucherzentrale (Berlin Consumer Advice Centre) and the AWO Community Centre on Adalbertstraße, we’re inviting our neighbours – young and old alike – to join us at Markthalle Neun for a chopping session using rescued food. We’d like to celebrate World Senior Citizens’ Day and discuss how we can better appreciate our food. The ‘Schnippeldisko’ (Disco Soup) will also feature some music. We’d love to see you there!
